Minor in Geography (Honours Program)

This program is designed for students wishing to concentrate on Geography. It introduces the basic concepts in human, physical and environmental geography and requires everyone to master the important computer, cartographic, writing, GIS, and statistical skills required of a professional geographer. Within this program it is possible to include a balanced mix of Geography courses, or to specialize in techniques, human, physical or environmental topics. Careful selection of electives from complementary programs can enhance specializations within this program.

BSc Minor in Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and Environmental Analysis

Note: Students who joined U of G prior to F20 can still follow the schedule of studies for the BSc Minor in GIS and Environmental Analysis. Those who have joined after F20 will follow the BSc Minor in Applied Geomatics

Major in Environmental Geomatics (B.Sc.)

The BSc. Environmental Geomatics is currently admissions paused. Not accepting applications for Fall 2024; interested students are encouraged to consider the Bachelor of Science in Environmental Sciences program, especially the major in Environment and Resource Management

Major in Environment and Resource Management (B.Sc.Env.)

The B.Sc. (Env.) program is designed to provide a strong interdisciplinary grounding in environmental sciences. Management and decision-making skills are emphasized for the application of scientific knowledge to environmental problems and the evaluation of environmental policies. This program promotes practical problem-solving and communications skills and includes experiential learning opportunities such as co-op, research and international exchange programs.

Graduate Profiles

Stephen Elgie graduated in 2010 with a BA in Geography and continued working with the Geography department to earn an MSc in 2012 with Dr. Wanhong Yang as his advisor.  Stephen found a career initially as a GIS technician with a large green energy developer in Toronto, and has since moved on to a career as a hydrologic data management sales and support manager with KISTERS North America, a global leader in time series and environmental data solutions.

Transfer from Masters to Doctoral Program

The following requirements must be met:

  1. The student must have at least a B+ average in his or her undergraduate program.
  2. The student must have completed GEOG*6090 and GEOG*6091 plus at least 2 courses (1.0 credits), 1 of which must be in Geography, with at least an A- average. The student must have submitted and presented a satisfactory Master's thesis proposal in GEOG*6091.
