A Time for Change

In 2017, the Department of Geography at the University of Guelph welcomed alumni, past faculty and staff and its current faculty, staff and students to an event marking its 50 year anniversary.  Such an event creates, naturally, a moment for looking back with fondness and ahead with anticipation. This document has been prepared with the latter very much in mind. 

Research Facilities

Research is a central part of daily life in the Department of Geography. Faculty members, graduate students, post-doctoral fellows and research associates study social transformation, environmental governance, and biophysical processes in study areas located around the world. 

Physical Geography Teaching Facilities

The Hutt Building houses several rooms dedicated to student learning in physical geography courses.  There is one large multi-purpose classroom that is used for tutorial and/or lab group meetings, and is home to our map library.  In the basement there are several spaces that support physical geography teaching.  There are the Sedimentary Transport Lab and the Sedimentary Analysis Lab.  The Sedimentary Transport Lab is used for demonstrations and student projects in several upper level courses.  In the summer, Graduate students use this space to test and calibrate se

Geography Resources and Services

Geography @Guelph is housed in the Hutt Building on the University of Guelph main campus, next to the University Centre. The building provides an administrative area, office space for faculty and graduate students, as well as research laboratories and other space to support the department’s commitment to experiential learning.

Joanna Petrasek MacDonald

""Joanna graduated with an Honours Bachelor of Environmental Science (Co-op) degree with a major in Environmental Geography.

During her four and a half years at Guelph she was able to maintain academic excellence while participating in a wide range of extra-curricular activities.

Joanna Salsberg is a student that is both passionate in her academic studies as well as in contributing to the Guelph community.

Áine Ganly

Aine GanlyAs an energetic student and community member, Áine Ganly is determined to challenge herself and the people around her.
Áine attended a high school for the arts in Toronto, where she was an outstanding student in the media arts, dance and musical theatre programs.

She graduated as a dance major, an award winning photographer and an Ontario Scholar.
