Geographers in the News - Nakoochee 24/06/19

Posted on Thursday, June 27th, 2019

Recent Graduate Roberta Nakoochee has a radio program that has recently been officially syndicated!

Since November, Roberta and her co-presenter Ashwin Freyne have been airing on 92.5 FM, CJUC in Whitehorse. But beginning on June 25th, you can catch them at 11 am on Tuesday mornings on CFET in Tagish, CJCC in Carcross, CJHJ in Haines Junction, CHTR in Atlin, and CHUG in Inuvik!

They are looking forward to reaching more people, especially as they move onto summer edition of the Bird Bath which will focus on making space for marginalized and northern voices. They are beginning this summer by celebrating Indigenous music and voices so we've got a great playlist this week. They also received a #RisingYouth grant to purchase a new mic, so their audio quality is also likely to go up soon.

Check them out here - https://www.mixcloud.com/BirdBathRadio/bird-bath-radio-ndns/ . In this episode, Roberta sits down with Leonard Linklater of CBC Yukon and talks about the importance of media and storytelling for the resurgence of Indigenous arts and culture.
